26:1

طسٓمٓ

"Ta, Sin, Meem."

26:2

تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ

"These are the verses of the clear Book."

26:3

لَعَلَّكَ بَـٰخِعٌ نَّفْسَكَ أَلَّا يَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ

"Perhaps, [O Muhammad], you would kill yourself with grief that they will not be believers."

26:4

إِن نَّشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ ءَايَةًۭ فَظَلَّتْ أَعْنَـٰقُهُمْ لَهَا خَـٰضِعِينَ

"If We willed, We could send down to them from the sky a sign for which their necks would remain humbly bowed."

26:5

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ مُحْدَثٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضِينَ

"And no revelation comes to them anew from the Most Merciful except that they are from it turning away."

26:6

فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوا۟ فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْ أَنۢبَـٰٓؤُا۟ مَا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

"For they have already denied, but there will come to them the news of that which they used to ridicule."

26:7

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَمْ أَنۢbَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍۢ كَرِيمٍ

"Did they not look at the earth - how much We have produced therein from every noble kind?"

26:8

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

"Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers."

26:9

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

"And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful."

26:10

وَإِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبُّكَ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱئْتِ ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

"And [mention] when your Lord called Moses, "Go to the wrongdoing people -"

26:11

قَوْmَ fِرْعَوْnَ ۚ أَلَا يَتَّqُونَ

"The people of Pharaoh. Will they not fear Allah?""

26:12

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ أَن يُكَذِّbُūnِ

"He said, "My Lord, indeed I fear that they will deny me"

26:13

وَيَضِīqُ صَدْرِى وَلَا yَنطَلِqُ لِسَانِى فَأَرْsِلْ إِلَىٰ hَـٰrُونَ

"And my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron."

26:14

وَلَهُمْ عَلَىَّ ذَنbٌۭ فَأَخَafُ أَن yَقْتُلُūnِ

"And they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me.""

26:15

قَالَ kَلَّا ۖ fَٱذْhَبَا بِـَٔايَـٰtِنَآ ۖ إِنَّا mَعَkُم mُّsْتَمِcُونَ

"[Allah] said, "No. Go both of you with Our signs; indeed, We are with you, listening."

26:16

fَأْتِيَا fِرْعَوْnَ fَقُولَآ إِنَّا rَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱlْ`ālamīna

"And go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds,"

26:17

أَنْ أَرْsِلْ مَعَنَا bَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِīlَ

"To send with us the Children of Israel.' ""

26:18

قَالَ أَلَمْ nُرَبِّكَ fīnā walīdan walabith'ta fīnā min `umurika sinīna

"[Pharaoh] said, "Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life?"

26:19

وَfَعَلْتَ fَعْلَتَكَ ٱlَّtī fa`alta wa-anta mina al-kāfirīna

"And you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful.""

26:20

قَالَ fَعَلْتُهَآ إِذًۭا وَأَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱlḍَّāllīna

"[Moses] said, "I did it then, when I was of those who are astray."

26:21

fَfَرَرْتُ مِنكُمْ lammā khif'tukum fawahaba lī rabbī ḥuk'man waja`alanī mina al-mur'salīna

"So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me judgement and made me [one] of the messengers."

26:22

وَtِلْكَ nِ`matun tamunnuhā `alayya an `abbadtta banī is'rāīla

"And is this a favor of which you remind me - that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?""

26:23

قَالَ fِرْعَوْnُ وَmā rabbu al-`ālamīna

"Pharaoh said, "And what is the Lord of the worlds?""

26:24

قَالَ رَبُّ ٱlsَّmāwāti wal-arḍi wamā baynahumā in kuntum mūqinīna

"[Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, if you should be convinced.""

26:25

قَالَ lِmān ḥawlahu alā tasma`ūna

"[Pharaoh] said to those around him, "Do you not hear?""

26:26

قَالَ رَبُّkُmْ وَrābbu ābāikumu al-awwalīna

"[Moses] said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers.""

26:27

قَالَ إِنَّ rَسُولَkumu alladhī ur'sila ilaykum lamajnūnun

"[Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad.""

26:28

قَالَ رَبُّ ٱlْmāshriqi wal-maghribi wamā baynahumā in kuntum ta`qilūna

"[Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason.""

26:29

قَالَ la-ini ittakhadhta ilāhan ghayrī la-aj`alannaka mina al-masjūnīna

"[Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned.""

26:30

قَالَ awalaw ji'tuka bishay'in mubīnin

"[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you proof manifest?""

26:31

قَالَ fāti bihi in kunta mina aṣ-ṣādiqīna

"[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful.""

26:32

fa-alqā `aṣāhu fa-idhā hiya thu`bānun mubīnun

"So he threw his staff, and at once it was a serpent, manifest."

26:33

wanaza`a yadahu fa-idhā hiya bayḍāu lilnnāẓirīna

"And he drew out his hand, and at once it was white for the observers."

26:34

قَالَ lilmala-i ḥawlahu inna hādhā lasāḥirun `alīmun

"[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician."

26:35

yurīdu an yukh'rijakum min arḍikum bisiḥ'rihi famādhā tamurūna

"He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?""

26:36

qālū arjih wa-akhāhu wa-ib'ath fī al-madāini ḥāshirīna

"They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers"

26:37

yatūka bikulli saḥḥārin `alīmin

"Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician.""

26:38

fajumi`a as-saḥaratu limīqāti yawmin ma`lūmin

"So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day."

26:39

waqīla lilnnāsi hal antum muj'tami`ūna

"And it was said to the people, "Will you be gathering"

26:40

la`allanā nattabi`u as-saḥarata in kānū humu al-ghālibīna

"That we may follow the magicians if they are the predominant?""

26:41

falammā jā'a as-saḥaratu qālū lifir'`awna a-inna lanā la-ajran in kunnā naḥnu al-ghālibīna

"And when the magicians arrived, they said to Pharaoh, "Is there indeed for us a reward if we are the predominant?""

26:42

qāla na`am wa-innakum idhan lamina al-muqarrabīna

"He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those brought near [to me].""

26:43

qāla lahum mūsā alqū mā antum mul'qūna

"Moses said to them, "Throw what you are going to throw.""

26:44

fa-alqaw ḥibālahum wa`iṣiyyahum waqālū bi`izzati fir'`awna innā lanaḥnu al-ghālibūna

"So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant.""

26:45

fa-alqā mūsā `aṣāhu fa-idhā hiya talqafu mā yafikūna

"Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they were falsifying."

26:46

fa-ul'qiya as-saḥaratu sājidīna

"So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]."

26:47

qālū āmannā birabbi al-`ālamīna

"They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds,"

26:48

rabbi mūsā wahārūna

"The Lord of Moses and Aaron.""

26:49

qāla āmantum lahu qabla an ādhana lakum innahu lakabīrukumu alladhī `allamakumu as-siḥ'ra falasawfa ta`lamūna la-uqaṭṭi`anna aydiyakum wa-arjulakum min khilāfin wala-uṣallibannakum ajma`īna

"[Pharaoh] said, "You believed him before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic. But you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all.""

26:50

qālū lā ḍayra innā ilā rabbinā munqalibūna

"They said, "No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return."

26:51

innā naṭma`u an yaghfira lanā rabbunā khaṭāyānā an kunnā awwala al-mu'minīna

"Indeed, we aspire that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we were the first of the believers.""

26:52

wa-awḥaynā ilā mūsā an asri bi`ibādī innakum muttaba`ūna

"And We inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants; indeed, you will be pursued.""

26:53

fa-arsala fir'`awnu fī al-madāini ḥāshirīna

"Then Pharaoh sent among the cities gatherers"

26:54

inna hāulāi lashir'dhimatun qalīlūna

"[Who said], "Indeed, those are but a small band,"

26:55

wa-innahum lanā laghāiẓūna

"And indeed, they are enraging us,"

26:56

wa-innā lajamī`un ḥādhirūna

"And indeed, we are a cautious society... ""

26:57

fa-akhrajnāhum min jannātin wa`uyūnin

"So We removed them from gardens and springs"

26:58

wakunūzin wamaqāmin karīmin

"And treasures and honorable station -"

26:59

kadhālika wa-awrathnāhā banī is'rāīla

"Thus. And We caused to inherit it the Children of Israel."

26:60

fa-atba`ūhum mush'riqīna

"So they pursued them at sunrise."

26:61

falammā tarā'ā al-jam`āni qāla aṣḥābu mūsā innā lamud'rakūna

"And when the two companies saw one another, the companions of Moses said, "Indeed, we are to be overtaken!""

26:62

qāla kallā inna ma`iya rabbī sayahdīni

"[Moses] said, "No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me.""

26:63

fa-awḥaynā ilā mūsā ani iḍ'rib bi`aṣāka al-baḥra fa-infalaqa fakāna kullu fir'qin kal-ṭawdi al-`aẓīmi

"Then We inspired to Moses, "Strike with your staff the sea," and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain."

26:64

wa-azlafnā thamma al-ākharīna

"And We advanced thereto the others."

26:65

wa-anjaynā mūsā waman ma`ahu ajma`īna

"And We saved Moses and those with him, all together."

26:66

thumma aghraqnā al-ākharīna

"Then We drowned the others."

26:67

inna fī dhālika laāyatan wamā kāna aktharuhum mu'minīna

"Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers."

26:68

wa-inna rabbaka lahuwa al-`azīzu ar-raḥīmu

"And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful."

26:69

wa-it'lu `alayhim naba-a ib'rāhīma

"And recite to them the news of Abraham."

26:70

idh qāla li-abīhi waqawmihi mā ta`budūna

"When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?""

26:71

qālū na`budu aṣnāman fanaẓallu lahā `ākifīna

"They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted.""

26:72

qāla hal yasma`ūnakum idh tad`ūna

"He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate?"

26:73

aw yanfa`ūnakum aw yaḍurrūna

"Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?""

26:74

qālū bal wajadnā ābā'anā kadhālika yaf`alūna

"They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus.""

26:75

qāla afara-aytum mā kuntum ta`budūna

"He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping,"

26:76

antum waābāukumu al-aqdamūna

"You and your ancient forefathers?"

26:77

fa-innahum `aduwwun lī illā rabba al-`ālamīna

"Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds,"

26:78

alladhī khalaqanī fahuwa yahdīni

"Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me."

26:79

wa-alladhī huwa yuṭ`imunī wayasqīni

"And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink."

26:80

wa-idhā mariḍ'tu fahuwa yashfīni

"And when I am ill, it is He who cures me."

26:81

wa-alladhī yumītunī thumma yuḥ'yīni

"And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life"

26:82

wa-alladhī aṭma`u an yaghfira lī khaṭīatī yawma ad-dīni

"And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense.""

26:83

rabbi hab lī ḥuk'man wa-alḥiq'nī bil-ṣāliḥīna

"[And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous."

26:84

wa-ij`al lī lisāna ṣidqin fī al-ākhirīna

"And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations."

26:85

wa-ij`alnī min warathati jannati an-na`īmi

"And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure."

26:86

wa-igh'fir li-abī innahu kāna mina aḍ-ḍāllīna

"And forgive my father, for indeed he has been of those astray."

26:87

walā tukh'zinī yawma yub`athūna

"And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected -"

26:88

yawma lā yanfa`u mālun walā banūna

"The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children"

26:89

illā man atā Allāha biqalbin salīmin

"But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.""

26:90

wa-uz'lifati al-jannatu lil'muttaqīna

"And Paradise will be brought near for the righteous."

26:91

waburrizati al-jaḥīmu lil'ghāwīna

"And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators,"

26:92

waqīla lahum ayna mā kuntum ta`budūna

"And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship"

26:93

min dūni Allāhi hal yanṣurūnakum aw yantaṣirūna

"Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?""

26:94

fakub'kibū fīhā hum wal-ghāwūna

"So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators"

26:95

wajunūdu ib'līsa ajma`ūna

"And the soldiers of Iblees, all together."

26:96

qālū wahum fīhā yakhtaṣimūna

"They will say while they dispute therein,"

26:97

ta-Allāhi in kunnā lafī ḍalālin mubīnin

""By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error"

26:98

idh nusawwīkum birabbi al-`ālamīna

"When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds."

26:99

wamā aḍallanā illā al-muj'rimūna

"And no one misguided us except the criminals."

26:100

famā lanā min shāfi`īna

"So now we have no intercessors"

26:101

walā ṣadīqin ḥamīmin

"Nor a devoted friend."

26:102

falaw anna lanā karratan fanakūna mina al-mu'minīna

"Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers...""

26:103

inna fī dhālika laāyatan wamā kāna aktharuhum mu'minīna

"Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers."

26:104

wa-inna rabbaka lahuwa al-`azīzu ar-raḥīmu

"And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful."

26:105

kadhabat qawmu nūḥin al-mur'salīna

"The people of Noah denied the messengers"

26:106

idh qāla lahum akhūhum nūḥun alā tattaqūna

"When their brother Noah said to them, "Will you not fear Allah?"

26:107

innī lakum rasūlun amīnun

"Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger."

26:108

fa-ittaqū Allāha wa-aṭī`ūni

"So fear Allah and obey me."

26:109

wamā as-alukum `alayhi min ajrin in ajriya illā `alá rabbi al-`ālamīna

"And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds."

26:110

fa-ittaqū Allāha wa-aṭī`ūni

"So fear Allah and obey me.""

26:111

qālū anu'minu laka wa-ittaba`aka al-ardhalūna

"They said, "Should we believe you while you are followed by the lowest [class of people]?""

26:112

qāla wamā `il'mī bimā kānū ya`malūna

"He said, "And what is my knowledge of what they used to do?"

26:113

in ḥisābuhum illā `alá rabbī law tash`urūna

"Their account is only upon my Lord, if you could perceive."

26:114

wamā anā biṭāridi al-mu'minīna

"And I am not one to drive away the believers."

26:115

in anā illā nadhīrun mubīnun

"I am only a clear warner.""

26:116

qālū la-in lam tantahi yānūḥu latakūnanna mina al-marjūmīna

"They said, "If you do not desist, O Noah, you will surely be of those who are stoned.""

26:117

qāla rabbi inna qawmī kadhabūni

"He said, "My Lord, indeed my people have denied me."

26:118

fa-if'taḥ baynī wabaynahum fatḥan wanajjinī waman ma`iya mina al-mu'minīna

"So judge between me and them with decisiveness and save me and those with me of the believers.""

26:119

fa-anjaynāhu waman ma`ahu fī al-ful'ki al-mashḥūni

"So We saved him and those with him in the laden ship."

26:120

thumma aghraqnā ba`du al-bāqīna

"Then We drowned thereafter the remaining ones."

26:121

inna fī dhālika laāyatan wamā kāna aktharuhum mu'minīna

"Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers."

26:122

wa-inna rabbaka lahuwa al-`azīzu ar-raḥīmu

"And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful."

26:123

kadhabat `ādun al-mur'salīna

"'Aad denied the messengers"

26:124

idh qāla lahum akhūhum hūdun alā tattaqūna

"When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah?"

26:125

innī lakum rasūlun amīnun

"Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger."

26:126

fa-ittaqū Allāha wa-aṭī`ūni

"So fear Allah and obey me."

26:127

wamā as-alukum `alayhi min ajrin in ajriya illā `alá rabbi al-`ālamīna

"And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds."

26:128

atabnūna bikulli rī`in āyatan ta`bathūna

"Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves,"

26:129

watattakhidhūna maṣāni`a la`allakum takhludūna

"And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally?"

26:130

wa-idhā baṭashtum baṭashtum jabbārīna

"And when you strike, you strike as tyrants."

26:131

fa-ittaqū Allāha wa-aṭī`ūni

"So fear Allah and obey me."

26:132

wa-ittaqū alladhī amaddakum bimā ta`lamūna

"And fear He who provided you with that which you know,"

26:133

amaddakum bi-an`āmin wabanīna

"Provided you with grazing livestock and children"

26:134

wajannātin wa`uyūnin

"And gardens and springs."

26:135

innī akhāfu `alaykum `adhāba yawmin `aẓīmin

"Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day.""

26:136

qālū sawāun `alaynā awa`aẓta am lam takun mina al-wā`iẓīna

"They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors."

26:137

in hādhā illā khuluqu al-awwalīna

"This is not but the custom of the former peoples,"

26:138

wamā naḥnu bimu`adhdhabīna

"And we are not to be punished.""

26:139

fakadhabūhu fa-ahlaknāhum inna fī dhālika laāyatan wamā kāna aktharuhum mu'minīna

"And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers."

26:140

wa-inna rabbaka lahuwa al-`azīzu ar-raḥīmu

"And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful."

26:141

kadhabat thamūdu al-mur'salīna

"Thamud denied the messengers"

26:142

idh qāla lahum akhūhum ṣāliḥun alā tattaqūna

"When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah?"

26:143

innī lakum rasūlun amīnun

"Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger."

26:144

fa-ittaqū Allāha wa-aṭī`ūni

"So fear Allah and obey me."

26:145

wamā as-alukum `alayhi min ajrin in ajriya illā `alá rabbi al-`ālamīna

"And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds."

26:146

atut'rakūna fī mā hāhunā āminīna

"Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death],"

26:147

fī jannātin wa`uyūnin

"Within gardens and springs"

26:148

wazurū`in wanakhlٍ ṭal`uhā haḍīmun

"And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit?"

26:149

watanḥitūna mina al-jibāli buyūtan fārihīna

"And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill."

26:150

fa-ittaqū Allāha wa-aṭī`ūni

"So fear Allah and obey me."

26:151

walā tuṭī`ū amra al-mus'rifīna

"And do not obey the order of the transgressors,"

26:152

alladhīna yuf'sidūna fī al-arḍi walā yuṣ'liḥūna

"Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend.""

26:153

qālū innamā anta mina al-musaḥḥarīna

"They said, "You are only of those affected by magic."

26:154

mā anta illā basharun mith'lunā fāti biāyatin in kunta mina aṣ-ṣādiqīna

"You are not but a man like us, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful.""

26:155

qāla hādhihi nāqatun lahā shir'bun walakum shir'bu yawmin ma`lūmin

"He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day."

26:156

walā tamassūhā bisūin faya'khudhakum `adhābu yawmin `aẓīmin

"And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day.""

26:157

fa`aqarūhā fa-aṣbaḥū nādimīna

"But they hamstrung her and became regretful."

26:158

fa-akhadhahumu al-`adhābu inna fī dhālika laāyatan wamā kāna aktharuhum mu'minīna

"So the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers."

26:159

wa-inna rabbaka lahuwa al-`azīzu ar-raḥīmu

"And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful."

26:160

kadhabat qawmu lūṭin al-mur'salīna

"The people of Lot denied the messengers"

26:161

idh qāla lahum akhūhum lūṭun alā tattaqūna

"When their brother Lot said to them, "Will you not fear Allah?"

26:162

innī lakum rasūlun amīnun

"Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger."

26:163

fa-ittaqū Allāha wa-aṭī`ūni

"So fear Allah and obey me."

26:164

wamā as-alukum `alayhi min ajrin in ajriya illā `alá rabbi al-`ālamīna

"And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds."

26:165

atatūna adh-dhuk'rāna mina al-`ālamīna

"Do you approach males among the worlds"

26:166

watadharūna mā khalaqa lakum rabbukum min azwājikum bal antum qawmun `ādūna

"And leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing.""

26:167

qālū la-in lam tantahi yālūṭu latakūnanna mina al-mukh'rajīna

"They said, "If you do not desist, O Lot, you will surely be of those evicted.""

26:168

qāla innī li`amalikum mina al-qālīna

"He said, "Indeed, I am, toward your deed, of those who detest [it]."

26:169

rabbi najjinī wa-ahlī mimmā ya`malūna

"My Lord, save me and my family from what they do.""

26:170

fanajjaynāhu wa-ahlahu ajma`īna

"So We saved him and his family, all,"

26:171

illā `ajūzan fī al-ghābirīna

"Except an old woman among those who remained behind."

26:172

thumma dammarnā al-ākharīna

"Then We destroyed the others."

26:173

wa-amṭarnā `alayhim maṭaran fasāa maṭaru al-mundharīna

"And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned."

26:174

inna fī dhālika laāyatan wamā kāna aktharuhum mu'minīna

"Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers."

26:175

wa-inna rabbaka lahuwa al-`azīzu ar-raḥīmu

"And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful."

26:176

kadhaba aṣḥābu al-aykati al-mur'salīna

"The companions of the thicket denied the messengers"

26:177

idh qāla lahum shu`aybun alā tattaqūna

"When Shu'ayb said to them, "Will you not fear Allah?"

26:178

innī lakum rasūlun amīnun

"Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger."

26:179

fa-ittaqū Allāha wa-aṭī`ūni

"So fear Allah and obey me."

26:180

wamā as-alukum `alayhi min ajrin in ajriya illā `alá rabbi al-`ālamīna

"And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds."

26:181

awfū al-kayla walā takūnū mina al-mukh'sirīna

"Give full measure and do not be of those who cause loss."

26:182

wazinū bil-qis'ṭāsi al-mus'taqīmi

"And weigh with an even balance."

26:183

walā tabkhasū an-nāsa ashyā'ahum walā ta`thaw fī al-arḍi muf'sidīna

"And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption."

26:184

wa-ittaqū alladhī khalaqakum wal-jibillata al-awwalīna

"And fear He who created you and the former creation.""

26:185

qālū innamā anta mina al-musaḥḥarīna

"They said, "You are only of those affected by magic."

26:186

wamā anta illā basharun mith'lunā wa-in naẓunnuka lamina al-kādhibīna

"You are not but a man like us, and indeed, we think you are among the liars."

26:187

fa-asqiṭ `alaynā kisafan mina as-samāi in kunta mina aṣ-ṣādiqīna

"So cause to fall upon us fragments of the sky, if you should be of the truthful.""

26:188

qāla rabbī a`lamu bimā ta`malūna

"He said, "My Lord is most knowing of what you do.""

26:189

fakadhabūhu fa-akhadhahum `adhābu yawmi aẓ-ẓullati innahu kāna `adhāba yawmin `aẓīmin

"And they denied him, so the punishment of the day of the black cloud seized them. Indeed, it was the punishment of a terrible day."

26:190

inna fī dhālika laāyatan wamā kāna aktharuhum mu'minīna

"Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers."

26:191

wa-inna rabbaka lahuwa al-`azīzu ar-raḥīmu

"And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful."

26:192

wa-innahu latanzīlu rabbi al-`ālamīna

"And indeed, the Qur'an is the revelation of the Lord of the worlds."

26:193

nazala bihi ar-rūḥu al-amīnu

"Brought down by the Trustworthy Spirit"

26:194

`alá qalbika litakūna mina al-mundhirīna

"Upon your heart, [O Muhammad] - that you may be of the warners -"

26:195

bilisānin `arabiyyin mubīnin

"In a clear Arabic language."

26:196

wa-innahu lafī zuburi al-awwalīna

"And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples."

26:197

awalam yakun lahum āyatan an ya`lamahu `ulamāu banī is'rāīla

"And has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel?"

26:198

walaw nazzalnāhu `alá ba`ḍi al-a`jamīna

"And if We had sent it down upon some of the foreigners"

26:199

faqara-ahu `alayhim mā kānū bihi mu'minīna

"And he had recited it to them, they would not have been in it believers."

26:200

kadhālika salaknāhu fī qulūbi al-muj'rimīna

"Thus have We inserted it into the hearts of the criminals."

26:201

lā yu'minūna bihi ḥattā yarawū al-`adhāba al-alīma

"They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment."

26:202

fayatiyahum baghtatan wahum lā yash`urūna

"And it will come to them unexpectedly while they do not perceive."

26:203

fayaqūlū hal naḥnu munẓarūna

"And they will say, "Are we to be reprieved?""

26:204

afabi`adhābinā yasta`jilūna

"So for Our punishment are they impatient?"

26:205

afara-ayta in matta`nāhum sinīna

"Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years"

26:206

thumma jā'ahum mā kānū yū`adūna

"And then there came to them that which they were promised,"

26:207

mā aghnā `anhum mā kānū yumatta`ūna

"They would not be availed by the enjoyment with which they were provided."

26:208

wamā ahlaknā min qaryatin illā lahā mundhirūna

"And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners"

26:209

dhik'rā wamā kunnā ẓālimīna

"As a reminder; and never have We been unjust."

26:210

wamā tanazzalat bihi ash-shayāṭīnu

"And the devils have not brought the Qur'an down."

26:211

wamā yanbaghī lahum wamā yastaṭī`ūna

"It is not allowable for them, nor would they be able."

26:212

innahum `ani as-sam`i lama`zūlūna

"Indeed they, from hearing, are removed."

26:213

falā tad`u ma`a Allāhi ilāhan ākhara fatakūna mina al-mu`adhdhabīna

"So do not invoke with Allah another deity and [thus] be among the punished."

26:214

wa-andhir `ashīrataka al-aqrabīna

"And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred."

26:215

wa-ikh'fiḍ janāḥaka limani ittaba`aka mina al-mu'minīna

"And lower your wing to those who follow you of the believers."

26:216

fa-in `aṣawka faqul innī barīon mimmā ta`malūna

"And if they disobey you, then say, "Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing.""

26:217

watawakkal `alá al-`azīzi ar-raḥīmi

"And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,"

26:218

alladhī yarāka ḥīna taqūmu

"Who sees you when you arise"

26:219

wataqallubaka fī as-sājidīna

"And your movement among those who prostrate."

26:220

innahu huwa as-samī`u al-`alīmu

"Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing."

26:221

hal unabbi-ukum `alá man tanazzalu ash-shayāṭīnu

"Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend?"

26:222

tanazzalu `alá kulli affākin athīmin

"They descend upon every sinful liar."

26:223

yul'qūna as-sam`a wa-aktharuhum kādhibūna

"They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars."

26:224

wal-shu`arāu yattabi`uhumu al-ghāwūna

"And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them;"

26:225

alam tara annahum fī kulli wādin yahīmūna

"Do you not see that in every valley they roam"

26:226

wa-annahum yaqūlūna mā lā yaf`alūna

"And that they say what they do not do? -"

26:227

illā alladhīna āmanū wa`amilū aṣ-ṣāliḥāti wadhakarū Allāha kathīran wa-intaṣarū min ba`di mā ẓulimū wasay`alamu alladhīna ẓalamū ayya munqalabin yanqalibūna

"Except those who believe and do righteous deeds and remember Allah often and defend [themselves] after they were wronged. And those who have wronged are going to know to which [kind of] return they will be returned."
