21:1

ٱqْتَرَبَ لِلnَّاسِ حِسَابُhُمْ وَhُمْ fِى غَفْلَةٍۢ mُّcْرِضُونَ

"Their account has approached for the people, while they are in heedlessness turning away."

21:2

مَا يَأْتِīhِم مِّن ذِkْرٍۢ mِّن rَّbِّhِم مُّحْدَثٍ إِلَّا ٱsْتَمَعُوهُ وَhُمْ yَلْعَبُونَ

"No mention comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play"

21:3

لَاهِيَةًۭ قُلُوبُhُمْ ۗ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱlnَّjْوَى ٱlَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ هَلْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌۭ mِّثْلُkُمْ ۖ أَfَتَأْتُونَ ٱlsِّحْرَ وَأَntُمْ tُbْصِرُونَ

"With their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation, [saying], "Is this [Prophet] except a human being like you? So would you accept magic while you are seeing?""

21:4

قَالَ رَبِّى يَعْلَمُ ٱlْqَوْlَ fِى ٱlsَّmَآءِ وَٱlْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱlsَّmِīcُ ٱlْعَلِيمُ

"He said, "My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.""

21:5

bَلْ قَالُوٓا۟ أَضْغَـٰثُ أَحْلَـٰmٍۭ bَلِ ٱfْتَرَىٰهُ bَلْ هُوَ شَاعِرٌۭ fَلْyَأْتِنَا بِـَٔايَةٍۢ kَمَآ أُرْسِلَ ٱlْأَwَّlُونَ

"But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the former [messengers] were sent [with miracles].""

21:6

مَآ ءَامَنَتْ qَبْلَهُم مِّن qَرْyَةٍ أَهْلَkْنَـٰهَآ ۖ أَfَهُمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ

"Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them, so will they believe?"

21:7

وَمَآ أَرْsَلْنَا qَبْلَكَ إِلَّا rِjَالًۭا nُّوحِىٓ إِلَيْhِمْ ۖ fَٱsْـَٔلُوٓa۟ أَهْلَ ٱlذِّkْرِ إِن kُntُمْ لَا tَعْلَمُونَ

"And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know."

21:8

وَمَا jَعَلْنَـٰhُمْ jَسَدًۭا lَّā يَأْkُلُونَ ٱltَّ`āma wamā kānū khālidīna

"And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth]."

21:9

ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَـٰhُمُ ٱlْwَعْدَ fَأَnjَيْنَـٰhُمْ وَmَن nَّشَآءُ وَأَهْلَkْنَا ٱlْمُsْرِfِينَ

"Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors."

21:10

لَقَدْ أَنzَلْنَآ إِلَيْkُمْ kِtَـٰbًۭا fīhِ ذِkْرُkُمْ ۖ أَfَلَا tَعْqِلُونَ

"We have certainly sent down to you a Book in which is your mention. Then will you not reason?"

21:11

وَkَمْ قَصَمْنَا مِن qَرْyَةٍۢ kَانَتْ ظَالِمَةًۭ وَأَنشَأْنَا بَعْدَهَا قَوْmًا ءَاخَرِينَ

"And how many a city which was unjust have We shattered and produced after it another people."

21:12

fَلَمَّآ أَحَسُّوا۟ بَأْسَنَآ إِذَا hُمْ mِّنْhَا يَرْkُضُونَ

"And when they perceived Our punishment, at once they fled from it."

21:13

لَا tَرْkُḍُوا۟ وَٱrْjِcُوٓa۟ إِلَىٰ مَآ أُtْرِfْتُمْ fīhِ وَmَسَـٰkِنِkُمْ لَعَلَّkُمْ tُsْـَٔلُونَ

"[Some angels said], "Do not flee but return to where you were given luxury and to your homes - perhaps you will be questioned.""

21:14

قَالُوا۟ يَـٰwَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا kُنَّا ظَـٰlِمِينَ

"They said, "O woe to us! Indeed, we were wrongdoers.""

21:15

fَمَا zَالَتْ tِلْكَ dَعْوَىٰhُمْ حَتَّىٰ jَعَلْنَـٰhُمْ حَصِيدًا خَـٰmِدِينَ

"And that declaration of theirs did not cease until We made them [as] a harvest, extinct."

21:16

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱlsَّmَآءَ وَٱlْأَرْضَ وَmَا bَيْنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَ

"And We did not create the heaven and earth and that between them in play."

21:17

لَوْ أَرَدْنَآ أَن nَّtَّخِذَ لَهْوًۭا lَّٱtَّخَذْنَـٰهُ مِن lَّdُنَّآ إِن kُنَّا fَـٰcِلِينَ

"Had We intended to take a diversion, We would have taken it from [what is] with Us - if [indeed] We were to do so."

21:18

bَلْ نَقْذِfُ بِٱlْحَقِّ عَلَى ٱlْبَـٰطِلِ fَيَدْمَغُهُۥ fَإِذَا hُوَ zَاهِqٌۭ ۚ وَلَkُمُ ٱlْwَيْلُ mِمَّا tَصِfُونَ

"Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it, and thereupon it departs. And for you is destruction from that which you describe."

21:19

وَلَهُۥ مَن fِى ٱlsَّmَـٰوَٰtِ وَٱlْأَرْضِ ۚ وَmَنْ عِndَهُۥ لَا يَsْتَkْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَلَا يَsْتَحْسِرُونَ

"To Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those near Him are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, nor do they tire."

21:20

يُsَبِّحُونَ ٱlَّyْلَ وَٱlnَّhَارَ لَا يَfْتُرُونَ

"They exalt [Him] night and day [and] do not slacken."

21:21

أَمِ ٱtَّخَذُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَةًۭ mِّنَ ٱlْأَرْضِ hُمْ يُnْشِرُونَ

"Or have they taken for themselves gods from the earth who resurrect [the dead]?"

21:22

لَوْ kَانَ fīhِمَآ ءَالِهَةٌ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا ۚ fَسُbْحَـٰnَ ٱللَّهِ رَبِّ ٱlْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِfُونَ

"Had there been within the heavens and earth gods besides Allah, they both would have been ruined. So exalted is Allah, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe."

21:23

لَا يُsْـَٔلُ عَمَّا يَfْعَلُ وَhُمْ يُsْـَٔلُونَ

"He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned."

21:24

أَمِ ٱtَّخَذُوا۟ مِن dُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةًۭ ۖ qُلْ هَاتُوا۟ bُرْhَـٰnَkُمْ ۖ hَـٰذَا ذِkْرُ مَن mَّcِyَ وَذِkْرُ مَن qَبْلِى ۗ bَلْ أَkْثَرُhُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ٱlْحَقَّ ۖ fَهُم mُّcْرِضُونَ

"Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, [O Muhammad], "Produce your proof. This is the message of those with me and the message of those before me." But most of them do not know the truth, so they are turning away."

21:25

وَمَآ أَرْsَلْنَا مِن qَبْلِكَ مِن rَّsُولٍ إِلَّا nُوحِىٓ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَـٰhَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ fَٱcْبُdُونِ

"And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, "There is no deity except Me, so worship Me.""

21:26

وَqَالُوا۟ ٱtَّخَذَ ٱlrَّحْمَـٰnُ وَلَدًۭا ۗ sُbْحَـٰnَهُۥ ۚ bَلْ عِبَاdٌۭ mُّkْرَمُونَ

"And they say, "The Most Merciful has taken a son." Exalted is He! Rather, they are [but] honored servants."

21:27

لَا يَsْبِqُونَهُۥ بِٱlْqَوْlِ وَhُم بِأَمْرِهِۦ يَعْمَلُونَ

"They cannot precede Him in speech, and they act by His command."

21:28

يَعْلَمُ مَا bَيْنَ أَيْdīhِمْ وَmَا خَلْfَهُمْ وَلَا يَشْfَعُونَ إِلَّا لِمَنِ ٱrْتَضَىٰ وَhُم mِّنْ خَشْyَتِهِۦ مُشْfِqُونَ

"He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they cannot intercede except on behalf of one whom He has approved. And they, from fear of Him, are apprehensive."

21:29

۞ وَmَن yَقُلْ مِنْhُمْ إِنِّىٓ إِلَـٰhٌۭ mِّن dُonِهِۦ fَذَٰlِكَ nَjْzِīhِ jَهَنَّmَ ۚ kَذَٰlِكَ nَjْzِى ٱlžَّـٰlِمِينَ

"And whoever of them should say, "Indeed, I am a god besides Him"- that one We would recompense with Hell. Thus do We recompense the wrongdoers."

21:30

أَوَلَمْ yَرَ ٱlَّذِينَ kَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱlsَّmَـٰوَٰtِ وَٱlْأَرْضَ kَانَتَا رَتْqًۭا fَفَتَقْنَـٰhُمَا ۖ وَjَعَلْنَا مِنَ ٱlْمَآءِ kُلَّ شَىْءٍ حَىٍّ ۖ أَfَلَا yُؤْمِنُونَ

"Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?"

21:31

وَjَعَلْنَا fِى ٱlْأَرْضِ رَوَٰsِyَ أَن tَمِīdَ بِhِمْ وَjَعَلْنَا fīhā fِjājًۭa sُbُلًۭا lَّcَلَّhُمْ yَهْتَدُونَ

"And We placed within the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with them, and We made therein [mountain] passes [as] roads that they might be guided."

21:32

وَjَعَلْنَا ٱlsَّmَآءَ sَقْfًۭa mَّحْfُوظًۭا ۖ وَhُمْ عَنْ ءَايَـٰtِهَا mُcْrِḍُونَ

"And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away."

21:33

وَهُوَ ٱlَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱlَّyْلَ وَٱlnَّhَارَ وَٱlشَّmْسَ وَٱlْqَمَرَ ۖ kُلٌّۭ fِى fَلَkٍۢ yَسْبَحُونَ

"And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming."

21:34

وَمَا jَعَلْنَا lِبَشَرٍۢ mِّن qَبْلِكَ ٱlْخُلْدَ ۖ أَfَإِي۟n mِّtَّ fَهُمُ ٱlْخَـٰlِدُونَ

"And We did not grant to any man before you eternity [on earth]; so if you die - would they be eternal?"

21:35

kُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ ذَآئِqَةُ ٱlْمَوْtِ ۗ وَnَبْلُokُمْ بِٱlشَّrِّ وَٱlْخَيْرِ fِtْنَةًۭ ۖ وَإِلَيْنَا tُرْjَعُونَ

"Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned."

21:36

وَإِذَا رَءَاكَ ٱlَّذِينَ kَفَرُوٓa۟ إِن yَتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا hُzُوًا أَهَـٰذَا ٱlَّذِى يَذْkُرُ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَhُم بِذِkْرِ ٱlrَّحْمَـٰnِ hُمْ kَـٰfِرُونَ

"And when those who disbelieve see you, [O Muhammad], they take you not except in ridicule, [saying], "Is this the one who insults your gods?" And they are, at the mention of the Most Merciful, disbelievers."

21:37

خُلِqَ ٱlْإِنsَـٰnُ مِنْ عَjَلٍۢ ۚ sَأُوrِīkُمْ ءَايَـٰtِى fَلَا tَسْتَعْjِلُونِ

"Man was created of haste. I will show you My signs, so do not impatiently urge Me."

21:38

وَيَقُولُونَ mَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱlْwَعْدُ إِن kُntُمْ صَـٰdِqِينَ

"And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?""

21:39

لَوْ يَعْلَمُ ٱlَّذِينَ kَفَرُوا۟ حِينَ لَا يَkُfُّونَ عَن וُjُوهِهِمُ ٱlnَّارَ وَلَا عَن ظُhُurِهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُnْصَرُونَ

"If those who disbelieved but knew the time when they will not avert the Fire from their faces or from their backs and they will not be aided..."

21:40

bَلْ tَأْتīhِم bَغْتَةًۭ fَتَبْهَتُhُمْ fَلَا yَسْتَطِī`ūna rəddahā walā hum yunẓarūna

"Rather, it will come to them unexpectedly and bewilder them, and they will not be able to repel it, nor will they be reprieved."

21:41

وَلَقَدِ ٱsْتُhْzِئَ بِrُsُلٍۢ mِّن qَبْلِكَ fَحَاقَ بِٱlَّذِينَ sَخِرُوا۟ مِنْhُم mَّا kَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ yَسْتَهْzِءُونَ

"And already were messengers ridiculed before you, but those who mocked them were enveloped by what they used to ridicule."

21:42

قُلْ مَن يَkْلَؤُkُم بِٱlَّيْلِ وَٱlnَّhَارِ مِنَ ٱlrَّحْمَـٰnِ ۗ bَلْ هُمْ عَن ذِkْرِ رَبِّhِم مُّcْرِضُونَ

"Say, "Who can protect you at night and by day from the Most Merciful?" But they are, from the remembrance of their Lord, turning away."

21:43

أَمْ لَهُمْ ءَالِهَةٌۭ tَمْنَعُhُم mِّن dُونِنَا ۚ lَا yَسْتَطِī`ūna naṣra anfusihim walā hum minnā yuṣ'ḥabūna

"Or do they have gods to defend them other than Us? They are unable [even] to help themselves, nor can they be protected from Us."

21:44

bَلْ mَتَّcْنَا هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيْhِمُ ٱlْعُمُرُ ۗ أَfَلَا يَرَوْnَ أَنَّا nَأْتِى ٱlْأَرْضَ nَنqُصُhā mìn aṭrāfihā afahumu al-ghālibūna

"But, We gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until life was prolonged for them. Then do they not see that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders? So it is they who will overcome?"

21:45

qُلْ إِنَّmَآ أُنذِرُkُم بِٱlْوَحْyِ ۚ وَلَا يَsْمَعُ ٱlصُّمُّ ٱldُّcَآءَ إِذَا مَا يُnذَرُونَ

"Say, "I only warn you by revelation." But the deaf do not hear the call when they are warned."

21:46

وَلَئِن mَّsَّtْhُمْ نَفْحَةٌۭ mِّنْ عَذَاbِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ يَـٰwَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا kُنَّا ظَـٰlِمِينَ

"And if [as much as] a whiff of the punishment of your Lord should touch them, they would surely say, "O woe to us! Indeed, we have been wrongdoers.""

21:47

وَنَضَعُ ٱlْمَوَٰzِينَ ٱlْqِسْṭَ لِيَوْmِ ٱlْqِيَـٰmَةِ fَلَا tُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌۭ شَيْـًۭٔا ۖ وَإِن kَانَ mِثْqَالَ حَبَّةٍۢ mِّنْ خَرْdَلٍ أَتَيْنَا بِhَا ۗ وَkَفَىٰ بِنَا حَـٰsِبِينَ

"And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as accountant."

21:48

وَلَقَدْ ءَاtَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَhَـٰrُونَ ٱlْfُرْqَانَ وَضِيَآءًۭ وَذِkْرًۭا lِّlْمُtَّqِينَ

"And We had already given Moses and Aaron the criterion and a light and a reminder for the righteous"

21:49

ٱlَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْnَ رَبَّhُم بِٱlْغَيْbِ وَhُم mِّنَ ٱlsَّā`ati mush'fiqūna

"Who fear their Lord unseen, while they are of the Hour apprehensive."

21:50

وَhَـٰذَا ذِkْرٌۭ mُّbَارَkٌ أَنzَلْنَـٰهُ ۚ أَfَأَntُمْ لَهُۥ mُnkِرُونَ

"And this [Qur'an] is a blessed message which We have sent down. Then are you with it unacquainted?"

21:51

۞ وَلَقَدْ ءَاtَيْنَآ إِبْرَٰهِīmَ rُsh'dahū min qablu wakunnā bihi `ālimīna

"And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing."

21:52

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِīhِ وَqَوْmِهِۦ مَا hَـٰذِهِ ٱltَّmāthīlu allatī antum lahā `ākifūna

"When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?""

21:53

قَالُوا۟ وَjَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا لَهَا عَـٰbِدِينَ

"They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them.""

21:54

قَالَ لَقَدْ kُntُمْ أَntُمْ وَءَابَآؤُkُمْ fِى ضَلَـٰlٍۢ mُّbīnٍ

"He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error.""

21:55

قَالُوٓا۟ أَjِئْتَنَا بِٱlْحَقِّ أَمْ أَntَ مِنَ ٱllَّـٰعِبِينَ

"They said, "Have you come to us with the truth, or are you of those who jest?""

21:56

قَالَ bَل rَّbُّkُمْ رَبُّ ٱlsَّmَـٰوَٰtِ وَٱlْأَرْضِ ٱlَّذِى fَṭَرَهُnَّ وَأَنَا۠ عَلَىٰ ذَٰlِkُم mِّنَ ٱlshَّـٰhِdِينَ

"He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify."

21:57

وَtَٱللَّهِ لَأَkīdənna aṣnāmakum ba`da an tuwallū mud'birīna

"And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away.""

21:58

fَjَعَلَهُمْ jُذَٰذًا إِلَّا kَبīrًۭا lَّhُمْ لَعَلَّhُمْ إِلَيْهِ yَرْjِcُونَ

"So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question it]."

21:59

قَالُوا۟ مَن fَعَلَ هَـٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَآ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱlžَّـٰlِمِينَ

"They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is among the wrongdoers.""

21:60

قَالُوا۟ sَمِcْنَا fَتًۭى يَذْkُرُhُمْ يُqَالُ لَهُۥٓ إِبْرَٰهِīmُ

"They said, "We heard a youth mentioning them who is called Abraham.""

21:61

قَالُوا۟ fَأْتُوا۟ بِهِۦ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْyُنِ ٱlnَّاسِ لَعَلَّhُمْ يَشْhَدُونَ

"They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify.""

21:62

قَالُوٓا۟ ءَأَntَ fَعَلْتَ هَـٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَا yā'ib'rāhīmu

"They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?""

21:63

قَالَ bَلْ fَعَلَهُۥ kَبīrُhُمْ هَـٰذَا fَٱsْـَٔلُuhُمْ إِن kānū yanṭiqūna

"He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak.""

21:64

fَرَjَعُوٓa۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَنfُsِهِمْ fَقَالُوٓa۟ إِنَّkُمْ أَntُمُ ٱlžَّـٰlِمُونَ

"So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you yourselves are the wrongdoers.""

21:65

ثُمَّ nُkِسُوا۟ عَلَىٰ rُءُوسِhِمْ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا hā'uulāi yanṭiqūna

"Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!""

21:66

قَالَ أَfَتَعْبُdُونَ مِن dُونِ ٱllَّhِ mā lā yanfa`ukum shay'an walā yaḍurrukum

"He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you?"

21:67

أُfٍّۢ lَّkُمْ وَlِmَا tَعْبُdُونَ مِن dُونِ ٱllَّhِ ۖ أَfَلَا tَعْqِلُونَ

"Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?""

21:68

قَالُوا۟ حَرِّqُūhُ وَٱnṣurūa 'ālihatakum 'in kuntum fā`ilīna

"They said, "Burn him and support your gods, if you are to act.""

21:69

qُلْنَا yā nāru kūni bardan wasalāman `alā ibrāhīma

"We said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham.""

21:70

وَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ kَيْdًا fَjَعَلْنَـٰhُمُ ٱlْأَkhsarīna

"And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers."

21:71

وَنَjَّyْنَـٰهُ وَlُūṭًا إِلَى ٱlْأَرْḍِ ٱlَّtī bāraknā fīhā lil'ʿālamīna

"And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds."

21:72

وَوَhَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسْḥāqa waya`qūba nāfilatan wakullan ja`alnā ṣāliḥīna

"And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous."

21:73

وَjَعَلْنَـٰhُمْ أَئِمَّةًۭ yَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا وَأَوْḥaynā ilayhim fi`la al-khayrāti wa-iqāma aṣ-ṣalāti wa-ītā'a az-zakāti wakānū lanā `ābidīna

"And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us."

21:74

وَلُوطًا ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ حُkْمًۭa وَ`ilman wanajjaynāhu mina al-qaryati allatī kānat ta`malu al-khabāitha innahum kānū qawma saw'in fāsiqīna

"And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient."

21:75

وَأَدْkhَلْنَـٰهُ fī raḥmatinā innahu mina aṣ-ṣāliḥīna

"And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous."

21:76

وَنُوحًا إِذْ nādā min qablu fa-is'tajabnā lahu fanajjaynāhu wa-ahlahu mina al-karbi al-`aẓīmi

"And [mention] Noah, when he called [to Allah] before [that time], so We responded to him and saved him and his family from the great distress."

21:77

وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُ مِنَ ٱlْqَوْmِ ٱlَّذِينَ kَذَّbُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰtِنَآ ۚ إِنَّhُمْ kānū qawma saw'in fa-aghraqnāhum ajma`īna

"And We saved him from the people who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a people of evil, so We drowned them all."

21:78

وَدَاوُۥdَ وَsُلَيْمَـٰnَ إِذْ يَحْkُمَانِ fِى ٱlْḥar'thi idh nafashat fīhi ghanamu al-qawmi wakunnā liḥuk'mihim shāhidīna

"And [mention] David and Solomon, when they judged concerning the field - when the sheep of the people grazed therein at night, and We were witness to their judgement."

21:79

fَfahhəmnāhā sulaymāna wakullan ātaynā ḥuk'man wa`il'man wasakhkharnā ma`a dāwūda al-jibāla yusabbiḥ'na wal-ṭayra wakunnā fā`ilīna

"And We gave understanding of the case to Solomon, and to each [of them] We gave judgement and knowledge. And We subjected the mountains to exalt [Us], along with David and the birds. And We were the doer [of all that]."

21:80

وَعَلَّmْنَـٰهُ ṣan`ata labūsin lakum lituḥ'ṣinakum min ba'sikum fahal antum shākirūna

"And We taught him the fashioning of coats of mail to protect you from your [enemy in] battle. So will you then be grateful?"

21:81

وَلِسُلَيْمَـٰnَ ٱr-rīḥa `āṣifatan tajrī bi-amrihi ilā al-arḍi allatī bāraknā fīhā wakunnā bikulli shay'in `ālimīna

"And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind, blowing forcefully, proceeding by his command toward the land which We had blessed. And We are ever, of all things, Knowing."

21:82

وَمِنَ ٱlshَّyāṭīni man yaghūṣūna lahu waya`malūna `amalan dūna dhālika wakunnā lahum ḥāfiẓīna

"And of the devils were those who dived for him and did work other than that. And We were of them a guardian."

21:83

وَأَيُّoubَ إِذْ nādā rabbahu annī massaniya aḍ-ḍurru wa-anta arḥamu ar-rāḥimīna

"And [mention] Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the most merciful of the merciful.""

21:84

fā'stajabnā lahu fakashafnā mā bihi min ḍurrin waātaynāhu ahlahu wamith'lahum ma`ahum raḥmatan min `indinā wadhik'rā lil'ʿābidīna

"So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers [of Allah]."

21:85

وَإِسْمَـٰcīla wa-id'rīsa wadhā al-kif'li kullun mina aṣ-ṣābirīna

"And [mention] Ishmael and Idrees and Dhul-Kifl; all were of the patient."

21:86

وَأَدْkhَلْنَـٰhُمْ fī raḥmatinā innahum mina aṣ-ṣāliḥīna

"And We admitted them into Our mercy. Indeed, they were of the righteous."

21:87

وَذَا ٱlnُّūni idh dhahaba mughāḍiban faẓanna an lan naqdira `alayhi fanādā fī aẓ-ẓulumāti an lā ilāha illā anta sub'ḥānaka innī kuntu mina aẓ-ẓālimīna

"And [mention] the man of the fish, when he went off in anger and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him. And he called out within the darknesses, "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.""

21:88

fā'stajabnā lahu wanajjaynāhu mina al-ghammi wakadhālika nunjī al-mu'minīna

"So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers."

21:89

وَzakarīyā idh nādā rabbahu rabbi lā tadharnī fardan wa-anta khayru al-wārithīna

"And [mention] Zechariah, when he called to his Lord, "My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors.""

21:90

fā'stajabnā lahu wawahabnā lahu yaḥyā wa-aṣlaḥnā lahu zawjahu innahum kānū yusāri`ūna fī al-khayrāti wayad`ūnanā raghaban warahaban wakānū lanā khāshi`īna

"So We responded to him, and We gave to him John, and amended for him his wife. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive."

21:91

wa-allatī aḥṣanat farjahā fanafakhnā fīhā min rūḥinā waja`alnāhā wa-ib'nahā āyatan lil'ʿālamīna

"And [mention] the one who guarded her chastity, so We blew into her [garment] through Our angel [Gabriel], and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds."

21:92

inna hādhihi ummatukum ummatan wāḥidatan wa-anā rabbukum fa-u`budūni

"[O prophets], indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so worship Me."

21:93

wataqaṭṭa`ū amrahum baynahum kullun ilaynā rāji`ūna

"And [yet] they divided their affair among themselves, [but] all to Us will return."

21:94

faman ya`mal mina aṣ-ṣāliḥāti wahuwa mu'minun falā kuf'rāna lisa`yihi wa-innā lahu kātibūna

"So whoever does righteous deeds while he is a believer - no denial will there be for his effort, and indeed We, of it, are recorders."

21:95

waḥarāmun `alā qaryatin ahlaknāhā annahum lā yarji`ūna

"And there is prohibition upon [the people of] a city which We have destroyed that they will [ever] return"

21:96

ḥattā idhā futiḥat yajūju wamajūju wahum min kulli ḥadabin yansilūna

"Until when [the dam of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevation, descend"

21:97

wā'qtaraba al-wa`du al-ḥaqqu fa-idhā hiya shākhiṣatun abṣāru alladhīna kafarū yāwaylanā qad kunnā fī ghaflatin min hādhā bal kunnā ẓālimīna

"And [when] the true promise has approached; then suddenly the eyes of those who disbelieved will be staring [in horror, while they say], "O woe to us; we had been unmindful of this; rather, we were wrongdoers.""

21:98

innakum wamā ta`budūna min dūni Allāhi ḥaṣabu jahannama antum lahā wāridūna

"Indeed, you [disbelievers] and what you worship other than Allah are the firewood of Hell. You will be coming to it."

21:99

law kāna hāulāi ālihatan mā waradūhā wakullun fīhā khālidūna

"Had these been gods, they would not have come to it, but all are eternal therein."

21:100

lahum fīhā zafīrun wahum fīhā lā yasma`ūna

"For them therein is heavy sighing, and they therein will not hear."

21:101

inna alladhīna sabaqat lahum minnā al-ḥus'nā ulāika `anhā mub`adūna

"Indeed, those for whom the best [reward] has preceded from Us - they are from it far removed."

21:102

lā yasma`ūna ḥasīsahā wahum fī mā ish'tahat anfusuhum khālidūna

"They will not hear its sound, while they are, in that which their souls desire, abiding eternally."

21:103

lā yaḥzunuhumu al-faza`u al-akbaru watatalaqqāhumu al-malāikatu hādhā yawmukumu alladhī kuntum tū`adūna

"They will not be grieved by the greatest terror, and the angels will meet them, [saying], "This is your Day which you have been promised" -"

21:104

yawma naṭwī as-samā'a kaṭayyi as-sijilli lil'kutubi kamā bada'nā awwala khalqin nu`īduhu wa`dan `alaynā innā kunnā fā`ilīna

"The Day when We will fold the heaven like the folding of a [written] sheet for the records. As We began the first creation, We will repeat it. [That is] a promise binding upon Us. Indeed, We will do it."

21:105

walaqad katabnā fī az-zabūri min ba`di adh-dhik'ri anna al-arḍa yarithuhā `ibādiya aṣ-ṣāliḥūna

"And We have already written in the book [of Psalms] after the [previous] mention that the land [of Paradise] is inherited by My righteous servants."

21:106

inna fī hādhā labalāghan liqawmin `ābidīna

"Indeed, in this [Qur'an] is notification for a worshipping people."

21:107

wamā arsalnāka illā raḥmatan lil'ʿālamīna

"And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds."

21:108

qul innamā yūḥā ilayya annamā ilāhukum ilāhun wāḥidun fahal antum mus'limūna

"Say, "It is only revealed to me that your god is but one God; so will you be Muslims [in submission to Him]?""

21:109

fa-in tawallaw faqul ādhantukum `alā sawāin wa-in adrī aqarībun am ba`īdun mā tū`adūna

"But if they turn away, then say, "I have announced to [all of] you equally. And I know not whether near or far is that which you are promised."

21:110

innahu ya`lamu al-jahra mina al-qawli waya`lamu mā taktumūna

"Indeed, He knows what is manifest of speech, and He knows what you conceal."

21:111

wa-in adrī la`allahu fit'natun lakum wamatā`un ilā ḥīnin

"And I know not; perhaps it is a trial for you and enjoyment for a time.""

21:112

qāla rabbi uḥ'kum bil-ḥaqqi warabbunā ar-raḥmānu al-mus'ta`ānu `alā mā taṣifūna

"He said, "My Lord, judge in truth. And our Lord is the Most Merciful, the one sought for help against that which you describe.""
