"Ta, Ha."
مَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِتَشْقَىٰٓ
"We have not sent down to you the Qur'an that you be distressed"
إِلَّا تَذْكِرَةًۭ لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰ
"But only as a reminder for those who fear [Allah] -"
تَنزِيلًۭا مِّمَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ ٱلْعُلَى
"A revelation from He who created the earth and highest heavens,"
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱسْتَوَىٰ
"The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established."
لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمَا تَحْتَ ٱلثَّرَىٰ
"To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth and what is between them and what is beneath the soil."
وَإِن تَجْهَرْ بِٱلْقَوْلِ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلسِّرَّ وَأَخْفَى
"And if you speak aloud - then indeed, He knows the secret and what is [even] more hidden."
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ لَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُsْنَىٰ
"Allah - there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names."
وَهَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ
"And has the story of Moses reached you?"
إِذْ رَءَا نَارًۭا فَقَالَ لِأَهْلِهِ ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟ إِنِّىٓ ءَانَسْتُ نَارًۭا لَّعَلِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم مِّنْهَا بِقَبَسٍ أَوْ أَجِدُ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ هُdًۭى
"When he saw a fire and said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire; perhaps I can bring you a torch or find at the fire some guidance.""
فَلَمَّآ أَتَىٰهَا نُودِىَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
"And when he came to it, he was called, "O Moses,"
إِنِّىٓ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكَ فَٱخْلَعْ نَعْلَيْكَ ۖ إِنَّكَ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًۭى
"Indeed, I am your Lord, so remove your sandals. Indeed, you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa."
وَأَنَا ٱخْتَرْتُكَ فَٱسْتَمِعْ لِمَا يُوحَىٰٓ
"And I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed [to you]."
إِنَّنِىٓ أَنَا ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعْبُdْنِى وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِذِkْرِىٓ
"Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance."
إِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ ءَاتِيَةٌ أَكَادُ أُخْfِيهَا لِtُjْzَىٰ kُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا tَسْعَىٰ
"Indeed, the Hour is coming - I almost conceal it - so that every soul may be recompensed according to that for which it strives."
فَلَا يَصُdَّnَّكَ عَنْهَا مَن لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِهَا وَٱtَّbَعَ هَوَىٰهُ fَتَرْdَىٰ
"So do not let one avert you from it who does not believe in it and follows his desire, for you [then] would perish."
وَمَا tِلْكَ بِيَمِينِكَ يَـٰmُوسَىٰ
"And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?""
قَالَ هِىَ عَصَاىَ أَتَوَkَّؤُa۟ عَلَيْhَا وَأَهُشُّ بِhَا عَلَىٰ غَنَمِى وَlِىَ fīhā mَـَٔārِbُ أُخْرَىٰ
"He said, "It is my staff; I lean upon it, and I bring down leaves for my sheep and I have therein other uses.""
قَالَ أَلْqِهَا يَـٰmُوسَىٰ
"[Allah] said, "Throw it down, O Moses.""
fَأَلْqَىٰhَا fَإِذَا هِىَ حَيَّةٌۭ tَسْعَىٰ
"So he threw it, and suddenly it was a serpent, racing."
قَالَ خُذْhَا وَلَا tَخَفْ ۖ sَنُعِīdُhَا sِīrَتَهَا ٱlْأُولَىٰ
"[Allah] said, "Seize it and fear not; We will return it to its former condition."
وَٱضْمُمْ يَدَكَ إِلَىٰ jَنَاحِكَ tَخْرُjْ bَيْضَآءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ sُوٓءٍ ءَايَةً أُخْرَىٰ
"And draw in your hand to your side; it will come out white without disease - another sign -"
lِنُرِيَكَ مِنْ ءَايَـٰtِنَا ٱlْkُbْرَى
"That We may show you [some] of Our greater signs."
ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ fِرْعَوْnَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
"Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.""
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱشْرَحْ لِى صَدْرِى
"[Moses] said, "My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance]"
وَيَسِّرْ لِىٓ أَمْرِى
"And ease for me my task"
وَٱحْلُلْ عُقْدَةًۭ مِّن لِّsَانِى
"And untie the knot from my tongue"
يَفْqَهُوا۟ قَوْlِى
"That they may understand my speech."
وَٱجْعَل لِّى وَzِيرًۭا mِّنْ أَهْلِى
"And appoint for me a minister from my family -"
hَـٰrُonَ أَخِى
"Aaron, my brother."
ٱشْدُdْ بِهِۦٓ أَzْرِى
"Increase through him my strength"
وَأَشْرِkْهُ fِىٓ أَمْرِى
"And let him share my task"
kَىْ nُsَبِّحَكَ kَثِīrًا
"That we may exalt You much"
وَنَذْkُرَكَ kَثِīrًا
"And remember You much."
إِنَّكَ kُnْتَ bِنَا bَصِīrًۭا
"Indeed, You are of us ever Seeing.""
قَالَ قَدْ أُوتِītَ sُؤْلَكَ يَـٰmُوسَىٰ
"[Allah] said, "You have been granted your request, O Moses."
وَلَقَدْ mَنَنَّا عَلَيْكَ mَرَّةً أُخْرَىٰٓ
"And We had already conferred Our favor upon you another time,"
إِذْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ مَا يُوحَىٰٓ
"When We inspired to your mother what We inspired,"
أَنِ ٱqْذِfīhِ fِى ٱltَّābُoutِ fَٱqْذِfīhِ fِى ٱlْyَمِّ fَلْyُلْqِhِ ٱlْyَمُّ بِٱlsَّāḥilِ yَأْخُذْهُ عَدُwٌّۭ lِّى وَعَدُwٌّۭ lَّهُۥ ۚ وَأَلْqَيْتُ عَلَيْكَ mَحَبَّةًۭ mِّnِّى وَlِtُصْنَعَ عَلَىٰ عَيْنِىٓ
"[Saying], 'Cast him into the chest and cast it into the river, and the river will throw it onto the bank; there will take him an enemy to Me and an enemy to him.' And I bestowed upon you love from Me that you would be brought up under My eye."
إِذْ tَمْشِىٓ أُخْتُكَ fَتَقُولُ هَلْ أَدُلُّkُمْ عَلَىٰ مَن yَkْfُلُهُۥ ۖ fَرَjَعْنَـٰكَ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ kَىْ tَقَرَّ عَيْنُhَا وَلَا tَحْzَنَ ۚ وَqَتَلْتَ نَفْسًۭا fَنَjَّyْنَـٰكَ مِنَ ٱlْغَمِّ وَfَتَنَّـٰكَ fُtُonًۭا ۚ fَلَبِثْتَ sِنِينَ fِىٓ أَهْلِ mَدْyَنَ ثُمَّ jِئْتَ عَلَىٰ قَدَرٍۢ يَـٰmُوسَىٰ
"[And We favored you] when your sister went and said, 'Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?' So We returned you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And you killed someone, but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a [severe] trial. And you remained [some] years among the people of Madyan. Then you came [here] at the decreed time, O Moses."
وَٱصْطَنَعْتُكَ لِنَفْسِى
"And I produced you for Myself."
ٱذْهَبْ أَntَ وَأَخُوكَ بِـَٔايَـٰtِى وَلَا tَنِيَا fِى ذِkْرِى
"Go, you and your brother, with My signs and do not slacken in My remembrance."
ٱذْهَبَآ إِلَىٰ fِرْعَوْnَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
"Go, both of you, to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed."
fَقُولَا لَهُۥ قَوْlًۭا lَّyِّنًۭا lَّcَلَّهُۥ يَتَذَkَّrُ أَوْ يَخْشَىٰ
"And speak to him with gentle speech that perhaps he may be reminded or fear [Allah].""
قَالَا رَبَّnَآ إِنَّnَا نَخَafُ أَن يَfْرُطَ عَلَيْنَآ أَوْ أَن يَطْغَىٰ
"They said, "Our Lord, indeed we are afraid that he will hasten [punishment] against us or that he will transgress.""
قَالَ لَا tَخَafَآ ۖ إِنَّnِى مَعَkُمَآ أَsْمَعُ وَأَرَىٰ
"[Allah] said, "Fear not. Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and I see."
fَأْتِيَاهُ fَقُولَآ إِنَّا رَسُولَا رَبِّكَ fَأَرْsِلْ مَعَنَا bَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِīlَ وَلَا tُعَذِّbْhُمْ ۖ qَدْ jِئْنَـٰكَ بِـَٔايَةٍۢ مِّن rَّbِّكَ ۖ وَٱlsَّlَـٰmُ عَلَىٰ مَنِ ٱtَّbَعَ ٱlْhُdَىٰٓ
"So go to him and say, 'Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord, so send with us the Children of Israel and do not torment them. We have an brought you a sign from your Lord. And peace will be upon he who follows the guidance."
إِنَّا قَدْ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْنَآ أَنَّ ٱlْعَذَاbَ عَلَىٰ مَن kَذَّbَ وَtَwَلَّىٰ
"Indeed, it has been revealed to us that the punishment is upon whoever denies and turns away.' ""
قَالَ fَمَن rَّbُّkُمَا يَـٰmُوسَىٰ
"[Pharaoh] said, "So who is the Lord of you two, O Moses?""
قَالَ رَبُّنَا ٱlَّذِىٓ أَعْطَىٰ kُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلْqَهُۥ ثُمَّ هَدَىٰ
"He said, "Our Lord is He who gave each thing its form and then guided [it].""
قَالَ fَمَا bَالُ ٱlْqُرُūnِ ٱlْأُولَىٰ
"[Pharaoh] said, "Then what is the case of the former generations?""
قَالَ عِلْمُhَا عِndَ رَبِّى fِى kِtَـٰbٍۢ ۖ lَّā يَضِلُّ رَبِّى وَلَا يَnsَى
"[Moses] said, "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord in a record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets.""
ٱlَّذِى jَعَلَ لَkُمُ ٱlْأَرْضَ mَهْدًۭا وَsَلَكَ لَكُمْ fīhā sُbُلًۭا وَأَنzَلَ مِنَ ٱlsَّmَآءِ mā'an fa-akhrajnā bihi azwājan min nabātin shattā
"[It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby pairs of varying plants."
kُلُوا۟ وَٱrْ`َوْا۟ أَنْcَـٰmَكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ fِى ذَٰlِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰtٍۢ lِّأُو۟lِى ٱlnُّhَىٰ
"Eat and graze your livestock. Indeed, in that are signs for those of intelligence."
mِنْهَا خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ وَfīhā nُ`īdُكُمْ وَmِنْهَا nُخْرِjُكُمْ tَارَةً أُخْرَىٰ
"From the earth We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will extract you another time."
وَلَقَدْ أَرَيْنَـٰهُ ءَايَـٰtِنَا kُلَّهَا fَكَذَّbَ وَأَبَىٰ
"And We certainly showed Pharaoh Our signs - all of them - but he denied and refused."
قَالَ أَjِئْتَنَا lِtُخْرِjَنَا مِنْ أَرْضِنَا بِsِحْرِكَ يَـٰmُوسَىٰ
"He said, "Have you come to us to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses?"
fَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَ بِsِحْرٍۢ mِّثْلِهِۦ fَٱjْ`əl bَيْنَنَا وَbَيْنَكَ mَوْ`ِدًا lَّا nُخْلِfُهُۥ nَحْنُ وَlَآ أَntَ mَkَانًۭا sُwًۭى
"So we will surely bring you magic like it, so make between us and you an appointment, which we will not fail to keep - we or you - in a place assigned.""
قَالَ مَوْcِدُكُمْ يَوْmُ ٱlzِّīnَةِ وَأَن يُحْشَرَ ٱlnَّاسُ ضُحًۭى
"[Moses] said, "Your appointment is on the day of the festival when the people assemble at mid-morning.""
fَتَwَلَّىٰ fِرْعَوْnُ fَjَمَعَ kَيْdَهُۥ ثُمَّ أَتَىٰ
"So Pharaoh went away, put together his plan, and then came [to the appointment]."
قَالَ لَهُم mُّوسَىٰ وَyْلَكُمْ لَا tَفْتَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ kَذِبًۭا fَيُsْḥِtَkُم بِعَذَاbٍۢ ۖ وَqَدْ خَاbَ مَنِ ٱfْتَرَىٰ
"Moses said to the magicians, "Woe to you! Do not invent a lie against Allah or He will exterminate you with a punishment; and he has failed who invents [such falsehood].""
fَتَنَـٰzَعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَهُم bَيْنَهُمْ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱlnَّjْوَىٰ
"So they disputed over their affair among themselves and concealed their private conversation."
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَٰnِ lَسَـٰḥirāni yurīdāni an yukh'rijākum min arḍikum bisiḥ'rihimā wayadhhabā biṭarīqatikumu al-muth'lā
"They said, "Indeed, these are two magicians who want to drive you out of your land with their magic and do away with your most exemplary way."
fَأَjْمِ`ūa۟ kَيْdَكُمْ ثُمَّ ٱئْتُوا۟ ṣaffan waqad af'laḥa al-yawma mani is'ta`lā
"So resolve upon your plan and then come [forward] in a line. And he has won today who overcomes.""
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰmُوسَىٰٓ إِمَّآ أَن tُلْqِyَ وَإِمَّآ أَن nَّkُونَ أَwَّlَ مَنْ أَلْqَىٰ
"They said, "O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw.""
قَالَ bَلْ أَلْqُوا۟ ۖ fَإِذَا حِبَالُhُمْ وَعِṣِيُّhُمْ يُخَيَّlُ إِلَيْهِ مِن sِحْرِهِمْ أَنَّhَا tَسْعَىٰ
"He said, "Rather, you throw." And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes]."
fَأَوْjَسَ fِى nَفْسِهِۦ خِīfَةًۭ mُّوسَىٰ
"And he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses."
qُلْنَا لَا tَخَفْ إِنَّكَ أَntَ ٱlْأَعْلَىٰ
"We said, "Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior."
وَأَلْqِ مَا fِى yَمِينِكَ tَلْqَفْ مَا ṣana`ūٓ ۖ إِنَّmَا ṣana`ū kَيْdُ sāḥirin walā yuf'liḥu as-sāḥiru ḥaythu atā
"And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is.""
fَأُلْqِyَ ٱsَّḥaratu sujjadan qālū āmannā birabbi hārūna wamūsā
"So the magicians fell down in prostration. They said, "We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.""
qāla āmantum lahu qabla an ādhana lakum innahu lakabīrukumu alladhī `allamakumu as-siḥ'ra fala-uqaṭṭi`anna aydiyakum wa-arjulakum min khilāfin wala-uṣallibannakum fī judhū`i an-nakhli walata`lamunna ayyunā ashaddu `adhāban wa-abqā
"[Pharaoh] said, "You believed him before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic. So I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you on the trunks of palm trees, and you will surely know which of us is more severe in [giving] punishment and more enduring.""
qālū lan nu'thiraka `alā mā jā'anā mina al-bayyināti walladhī faṭaranā fa-iq'ḍi mā anta qāḍin innamā taqḍī hādhihi al-ḥayāta ad-dun'yā
"They said, "Never will we prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and [over] He who created us. So decree whatever you are to decree. You can only decree for this worldly life."
innā āmannā birabbinā liyaghfira lanā khaṭāyānā wamā akrahtanā `alayhi mina as-siḥ'ri wa-Allāhu khayrun wa-abqā
"Indeed, we have believed in our Lord that He may forgive us our sins and what you compelled us [to do] of magic. And Allah is better and more enduring.""
innahu man ya'ti rabbahu muj'riman fa-inna lahu jahannama lā yamūtu fīhā walā yaḥyā
"Indeed, whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal - indeed, for him is Hell; he will neither die therein nor live."
waman ya'tihi mu'minan qad `amila aṣ-ṣāliḥāti fa-ulāika lahumu ad-darajātu al-`ulā
"But whoever comes to Him as a believer having done righteous deeds - for those will be the highest degrees [in position]:"
jannātu `adnin tajrī min taḥtihā al-anhāru khālidīna fīhā wadhālika jazāu man tazakkā
"Gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. And that is the reward of one who purifies himself."
walaqad awḥaynā ilā mūsā an asri bi`ibādī fa-iḍ'rib lahum ṭarīqan fī al-baḥri yabasan lā takhāfu darakan walā takhshā
"And We had certainly revealed to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants and strike for them a dry path through the sea; you will not fear being overtaken [by Pharaoh] nor be afraid [of drowning].""
fa-atba`ahum fir'`awnu bijunūdihi faghashiyahum mina al-yammi mā ghashiyahum
"So Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, and there covered them from the sea that which covered them."
wa-aḍalla fir'`awnu qawmahu wamā hadā
"And Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide [them]."
yābanī is'rāīla qad anjaynākum min `aduwwikum wawā`adnākum jāniba aṭ-ṭūri al-aymana wanazzalnā `alaykumu al-manna was-salwā
"O Children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and We made an appointment with you at the right side of the mount, and We sent down to you manna and quails,"
kulū min ṭayyibāti mā razaqnākum walā taṭghaw fīhi fayaḥilla `alaykum ghaḍabī waman yaḥlil `alayhi ghaḍabī faqad hawā
"[Saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress [or oppress others] therein, lest My anger should descend upon you. And he upon whom My anger descends has certainly fallen.""
wa-innī laghaffārun liman tāba waāmana wa`amila ṣāliḥan thumma ih'tadā
"But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance."
wamā a`jalaka `an qawmika yāmūsā
"And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?""
qāla hum ulāi `alā atharī wa`ajil'tu ilayka rabbi litarḍā
"He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased.""
qāla fa-innā qad fatannā qawmaka min ba`dika wa-aḍallahumu as-sāmirīyu
"[Allah] said, "But We have tried your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray.""
faraja`a mūsā ilā qawmihi ghaḍbāna asifan qāla yāqawmi alam ya`id'kum rabbukum wa`dan ḥasanan afaṭāla `alaykumu al-`ahdu am aradttum an yaḥilla `alaykum ghaḍabun min rabbikum fa-akhlaftum maw`idī
"So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Then did the time seem long to you? Or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?""
qālū mā akhlafnā maw`idaka bimalkinā walākinnā ḥummil'nā awzāran min zīnati al-qawmi faqadhafnāhā fakadhālika alqā as-sāmirīyu
"They said, "We did not break our promise to you by our own will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people [of Pharaoh], so we threw them [into the fire], and thus did the Samiri throw.""
fa-akhraja lahum `ij'lan jasadan lahu khuwārun faqālū hādhā ilāhukum wa-ilāhu mūsā fanasiya
"And he extracted for them [the statue of] a calf which had a lowing sound, and they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot.""
afalā yarawna allā yarji`u ilayhim qawlan walā yamliku lahum ḍarran walā naf`an
"Did they not see that it could not return to them any speech and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit?"
walaqad qāla lahum hārūnu min qablu yāqawmi innamā futintum bihi wa-inna rabbakumu ar-raḥmānu fa-ittabi`ūnī wa-aṭī`ū amrī
"And Aaron had already told them before, "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order.""
qālū lan nabraḥa `alayhi `ākifīna ḥattā yarji`a ilaynā mūsā
"They said, "We will never cease being devoted to it until Moses returns to us.""
qāla yāhārūnu mā mana`aka idh ra-aytahum ḍallū
"[Moses] said, "O Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray,"
allā tattabi`ani afa`aṣayta amrī
"From following me? Then did you disobey my order?""
qāla ya-ib'na umma lā ta'khudh biliḥ'yatī walā bira'sī innī khashītu an taqūla farraqta bayna banī is'rāīla walam tarqub qawlī
"[Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, do not seize [me] by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe [or await] my word.' ""
qāla famā khaṭbuka yāsāmirīyu
"[Moses] said, "And what is your case, O Samiri?""
qāla baṣur'tu bimā lam yabṣurū bihi faqabaḍtu qabḍatan min athari ar-rasūli fanabadhtuhā wakadhālika sawwalat lī nafsī
"He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me.""
qāla fa-idh'hab fa-inna laka fī al-ḥayāti an taqūla lā misāsa wa-inna laka maw`idan lan tukh'lafahu wa-unẓur ilā ilāhika alladhī ẓalta `alayhi `ākifan lanuḥarriqannahu thumma lanansifannahu fī al-yammi nasfan
"[Moses] said, "Then go. And indeed, it is [decreed] for you in [this] life to say, 'No contact.' And indeed, you have an appointment [in the Hereafter] you will not fail to keep. And look at your 'god' to which you remained devoted. We will surely burn it and blow it into the sea with a blast."
innamā ilāhukumu Allāhu alladhī lā ilāha illā huwa wasi`a kulla shay'in `il'man
"Your god is only Allah, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge.""
kadhālika naquṣṣu `alayka min anbāi mā qad sabaqa waqad ātaynāka min ladunnā dhik'ran
"Thus, [O Muhammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us the Qur'an."
man a`raḍa `anhu fa-innahu yaḥmilu yawma al-qiyāmati wiz'ran
"Whoever turns away from it - then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden,"
khālidīna fīhi wasā'a lahum yawma al-qiyāmati ḥim'lan
"Abiding eternally therein, and evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a load -"
yawma yunfakhu fī aṣ-ṣūri wanaḥshuru al-muj'rimīna yawma-idhin zur'qan
"The Day the Horn is blown; and We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed."
yatakhāfatūna baynahum in labith'tum illā `ashran
"They will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world].""
naḥnu a`lamu bimā yaqūlūna idh yaqūlu amthaluhum ṭarīqatan in labith'tum illā yawman
"We are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner will say, "You remained not but a day.""
wayas'alūnaka `ani al-jibāli faqul yansifuhā rabbī nasfan
"And they ask you about the mountains, so say, "My Lord will blow them away with a blast."
fayadharuhā qā`an ṣafṣafan
"And He will leave the earth a level plain;"
lā tarā fīhā `iwajan walā amtan
"You will not see therein a depression or an elevation.""
yawma-idhin yattabi`ūna ad-dā`iya lā `iwaja lahu wakhasha`ati al-aṣwātu lilrraḥmāni falā tasma`u illā hamsan
"That Day, they will follow the caller from whom is no deviation; and voices will be hushed before the Most Merciful, so you will not hear except a whisper."
yawma-idhin lā tanfa`u ash-shafā`atu illā man adhina lahu ar-raḥmānu waraḍiya lahu qawlan
"That Day, no intercession will benefit except [that of] one to whom the Most Merciful has given permission and has accepted his word."
ya`lamu mā bayna aydīhim wamā khalfahum walā yuḥīṭūna bihi `il'man
"Allah knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, but they do not encompass it in knowledge."
wa`anati al-wujūhu lil'ḥayyi al-qayyūmi waqad khāba man ḥamala ẓul'man
"And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. And he will have failed who carries injustice."
waman ya`mal mina aṣ-ṣāliḥāti wahuwa mu'minun falā yakhāfu ẓul'man walā haḍman
"But he who does of righteous deeds while he is a believer - he will fear neither injustice nor deprivation."
wakadhālika anzalnāhu qur'ānan `arabīyan waṣarrafnā fīhi mina al-wu`ūdi la`allahum yattaqūna aw yuḥ'dithu lahum dhik'ran
"And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an and have diversified therein the warnings that perhaps they will avoid [sin] or it would cause them remembrance."
fata`ālá Allāhu al-maliku al-ḥaqqu walā ta`jal bil-qur'āni min qabli an yuq'ḍā ilayka waḥyuhu waqul rabbi zid'nī `il'man
"So high is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge.""
walaqad `ahidnā ilā ādama min qablu fanasiya walam najid lahu `azman
"And We had already taken a covenant from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination."
wa-idh qul'nā lil'malāikati us'judū liādama fasajadū illā ib'līsa abā
"And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except Iblees; he refused."
faqul'nā yāādamu inna hādhā `aduwwun laka walizawjika falā yukh'rijannakumā mina al-jannati fatashqā
"So We said, "O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer."
inna laka allā tajū`a fīhā walā ta`rā
"Indeed, it is [incumbent] for you not to be hungry therein or be unclothed."
wa-annaka lā taẓma-u fīhā walā taḍḥā
"And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun's heat.""
fawaswasa ilayhi ash-shayṭānu qāla yāādamu hal adulluka `alā shajarati al-khul'di wamul'kin lā yablā
"Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?""
fa-akalā min'hā fabadat lahumā sawātuhumā waṭafiqā yakhṣifāni `alayhimā min waraqi al-jannati wa`aṣā ādamu rabbahu faghawā
"And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred."
thumma ij'tabāhu rabbuhu fatāba `alayhi wahadā
"Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him]."
qāla ih'biṭā min'hā jamī`an ba`ḍukum liba`ḍin `aduwwun fa-immā ya'tiyannakum minnī hudan famani ittaba`a hudāya falā yaḍillu walā yashqā
"[Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me, then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter]."
waman a`raḍa `an dhik'rī fa-inna lahu ma`īshatan ḍankan wanaḥshuruhu yawma al-qiyāmati a`mā
"And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind.""
qāla rabbi lima ḥashartanī a`mā waqad kuntu baṣīran
"He will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?""
qāla kadhālika atatka āyātunā fanasītahā wakadhālika al-yawma tunsā
"[Allah] will say, "Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten.""
wakadhālika najzī man asrafa walam yu'min biāyāti rabbihi wala`adhābu al-ākhirati ashaddu wa-abqā
"And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring."
afalam yahdi lahum kam ahlaknā qablahum mina al-qurūni yamshūna fī masākinihim inna fī dhālika laāyātin li-ulī an-nuhā
"Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence."
walawlā kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika lakāna lizāman wa-ajalun musamman
"And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, punishment would have been an obligation [due immediately], and [if not for] a specified term [decreed]."
fa-iṣ'bir `alā mā yaqūlūna wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika qabla ṭulū`i ash-shamsi waqabla ghurūbihā wamin ānāi al-layli fasabbiḥ wa-aṭrāfa an-nahāri la`allaka tarḍā
"So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied."
walā tamuddanna `aynayka ilā mā matta`nā bihi azwājan min'hum zahrata al-ḥayāti ad-dun'yā linaftinahum fīhi wariz'qu rabbika khayrun wa-abqā
"And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring."
wa'mur ahlaka bi-ṣ-ṣalati wa-iṣ'ṭabir `alayhā lā nas'aluka riz'qan naḥnu narzuquka wal-`āqibatu lilttaqwā
"And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness."
waqālū lawlā ya'tīnā biāyatin min rabbihi awa lam ta'tihim bayyinatu mā fī aṣ-ṣuḥufi al-ūlā
"And they say, "Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?" Has there not come to them proof of what is in the former scriptures?"
walaw annā ahlaknāhum bi`adhābin min qablihi laqālū rabbanā lawlā arsalta ilaynā rasūlan fanattabi`a āyātika min qabli an nadhilla wanakhzā
"And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before him, they would have said, "Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses before we were humiliated and disgraced?""
qul kullun mutarabbiṣun fatarabbaṣū fasata`lamūna man aṣḥābu aṣ-ṣirāṭi as-sawīyi wamani ih'tadā
"Say, "Each [of us] is waiting; so wait. For you will know who are the companions of the sound path and who is guided.""
